Kansas Shutouts Baylor Soccer, 3-0

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Baylor soccer team lost to Kansas Sunday afternoon, 3-0, as the Bears finished out their 2001 Big 12 Conference season with a second-straight loss.

Freshman forward Rachel Gilfillan scored two goals off the bench for Kansas (11-5, 6-3 Big 12). Baylor (8-8, 4-6 Big 12) managed only three shots on goal in suffering the shutout.

Kansas defender Stacey Leeper put the Jayhawks on the board early, scoring her first goal of the season at the 13:20 mark in the first half on a shot from 30 yards out that swirled in the wind and landed in the back of the net behind Baylor keeper Stephanie Dempsey.

Gilfillan recorded her first goal of the day 20 minutes later, scoring from 12 yards out on the left side. The 2-0 deficit carried into the second half, when Gilfillan completed the day's scoring with her eighth goal of the season.

Dempsey tied her career high with five saves while playing the entire 90 minutes in goal.

Sunday's loss was Baylor's fifth blanking of the season, the Bears' previous high for shutouts in one year was four, set in 1999 and 2000. The Bears end the season with an under-.500 record in conference for the first time in the program's six seasons.

Baylor finishes out the regular season Friday at Colorado College. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. CT.
