Orlando, Fla. - Baylor safety Samir Al-Amin is one of 31 Big 12 Conference players to have been issued an invitation to participate in the 4th annual Rotary Gridiron Classic presented by Tyco.
The all-star game features college seniors from around the United States against Team Florida, composed of athletes who either played college football in Florida or have other connections to the Sunshine State. The game will be played on Saturday, January 26th at 2 p.m. (EST) at the Orlando Citrus Bowl.
Al-Amin, a senior from Garland, Texas, is currently second on the team with with 27 tackles and leads the club with 19 solo stops. He has started 20 of the 37 Baylor games in which he has played in his career.
In addition to Al-Amin, Big 12 players receiving invitations to play for Team USA include quarterback Eric Crouch (Nebraska), running backs Ennis Haywood (Iowa State) and Josh Scobey (Kansas State), wide receiver Aaron Lockett (Kansas State), tight ends Tracey Wistrom (Nebraska), Daniel Graham (Colorado), and Mike Banks (Iowa State), offensive tackles Mike Williams (Texas), Frank Romero (Oklahoma), Victor Rogers (Colorado), and David Volk (Nebraska), offensive guards Andre Gurode (Colorado), Antwan Kirk-Hughes (Texas), and Mike Hayes (Missouri), defensive end Corey Heinecke (Oklahoma), defensive tackles Jeremy Slechta (Nebraska), Nate Dwyer (Kansas), and Justin Bannan (Colorado), inside linebackers Jashon Sykes (Colorado), DD Lewis (Texas), and Dwayne Levels (Oklahoma State), outside linebackers Rocky Calmus (Oklahoma) and Ben Leber (Kansas State), and defensive backs Kevin Curtis (Texas Tech), Michael Lewis (Colorado), John McGraw (Kansas State), Quentin Jammer (Texas) and Keyou Craver (Nebraska).
Former NFL Head Coaches lead the Rotary Gridiron Classic teams, providing valuable insight and instruction to the players as they begin their professional careers. Their guidance plays a key part in the week of activities and practices, helping the players with the transition to the NFL. Past Rotary Gridiron Classic head coaches have included Lindy Infante (Green Bay/Indianapolis), Chuck Noll (Pittsburgh), Wayne Fontes (Detroit) and Buddy Ryan (Philadelphia/Arizona).
