Waco, Texas - Baylor began spring football practice Wednesday with a two-hour session that was intense and spirited despite the chilly weather. The Bears, working out in shorts and no pads, divided their time equally between offense and defense, finishing the practice session with 11-on-11, non-contact scrimmage plays.
"The tempo was good today," Head Coach Kevin Steele said. "It was very intense, but I think the guys were having fun and enjoyed being back out on the practice field."
Several young players who will be counted on this fall began to assert themselves, including sophomore tailback Jonathan Golden, redshirt freshman wideout Marques Roberts and sophomore cornerback Bobby Hart.
"We have to get in a situation where there's competition at every position, and we're getting close to having that. Our next goal is to find playmakers, guys who can be difference-makers, on both offense and defense."
Returning to the practice field after suffering a broken collarbone in last season's second game was quarterback Greg Cicero, who worked exclusively with the first-team offense.
"Greg looked like he hadn't missed a beat," Steele said. "It was nice to see him back under center."
Per NCAA regulations, Baylor will conduct a total of 15 spring practice sessions, culminating with the annual Green-Gold Game on Mar. 24.
