Waco, Texas - Baylor football practiced for two hours Saturday morning, highlighted by a 45-minute scrimmage near the end of the workout.
Sophomore tailback Jonathan Golden drew most of the attention during the scrimmage, rushing for 33 yards on five carries. However, he left the practice field as a precautionary measure after taking a shot to his right knee.
Quarterback Greg Cicero completed 4-of-8 passes for 19 yards, and also scored the first touchdown of the scrimmage on a 10-yard scramble. Josh Zachry finished 3-of-7 passing for 30 yards, but was intercepted once by cornerback Eric Giddens.
"We were able to accomplish some things and execute some new things, but it still looked like our first scrimmage of the spring," Head Coach Kevin Steele said. "Golden looked like the real deal out there, and some other guys made some nice plays. But we've still got a long way to go to accomplish what we want to accomplish this spring."
Defensively, middle linebacker John Garrett stood out with a sack, a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery.
"That was typical John Garrett," Steele said.
Baylor returns to the practice field Monday and will also practice Wednesday and Friday before taking a week hiatus for Spring Break. The Bears will conduct a total of 15 spring practice sessions, culminating with the annual Green-Gold Game on Mar. 24.
