#18 Baylor (4-0, 1-0) vs. #2 Georgia (1-0)
Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 * Athens, Ga. * 11 a.m. CT
The Baylor women's tennis team will play perhaps their toughest match of the season Saturday, traveling to Athens, Ga. to play the No. 2 Georgia Lady Bulldogs. The teams will square off at noon ET (11 a.m. CT) at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Center on the UGA campus.
Baylor and Georgia have met only once before. In 1986, the Lady Bulldogs swept the Bears 7-0.
Like Baylor, Georgia boasts three ranked players (as of Feb. 6): No. 5 Aarthi Venkatesan, No. 26 Anne Nguyen and No. 55 Tina Hojnik. The Lady Bulldogs enter the weekend with a record of 1-0, having beaten Middle Tennessee State in their only dual match of the spring to date.
Team notes:
The team's current No. 18 ranking ties the team's highest ever, the team has been at No. 18 since Dec. 2000, and also ranked No. 18 during three different weeks in March and April of 2000.
The Bears were selected to participate in the National Team Indoors, an elite tournament featuring 16 of the top teams in the country.
Baylor has won five straight season openers, dating back to 1996.
