Baylor Softball This Week
Baylor (34-20, 5-9)
hosts UT-Arlington (25-15-1) - Wed., April 25 - DH - 5:00 p.m.
hosts Missouri - Sat., April 28 - 2:00 p.m.
hosts Missouri - Sun., April 29 - 1:00 p.m.
Three seniors will be honored on Sunday - Naomi Fitzgerald, Jennifer Polk, Meredith Miller
The Lady Bears come into the UT-Arlington series with a 34-20 record overall. They are coming off a week where they played six games in seven days They ended up 3-3 for the week.
Baylor will tangle with UT-Arlington for the fourth and fifth time this season. They met in UTA's tournament and BU won 5-1. In a doubleheader in Arlington earlier this season the two teams split, BU took the first game 2-0 and UTA won the second 11-3.
UTA is 25-15-1 on the year and are 5-5 in road games so far this season.
BAYLOR LADY BEARS
Catcher Ryan Stukel (junior, Cochise, Ariz.) leads four Lady Bear hitters that are hitting .300 or over. Stukel took over the team lead this past week and is now hitting .359. She leads the team in RBI (35), home runs (8), triples (3) and slugging percentage (.596). Senior All-American Naomi Fitzgerald, College Grove, Tenn., is right behind Stukel at .347. She leads the team in hits (58) and triples (3). Sophomore Stacey Hundley (Mesa, Ariz.) hits .308 and sophomore Sarah Caudle (Gilroy, Calif.) is hitting .305. Baylor pitchers are led by sophomore Joni Miller (Edmond, Okla.). The rightie sports a record of 24-14 and an ERA of 1.54. In 249.1 innings pitched she has struck out 142 and issued only 41 walks.
UT-ARLINGTON MAVERICKS
The UT-Arlington Mavericks come into the game with a record of 25-15-1. They are currently on a four-game winning streak, their longest winning streak of the season.
The Mavs are led by April Jones' .311 batting average. Katy Cox leads the team in victories on the mound with a 17-11 record but Amanda Kirk is 7-3 with a 0.79 ERA. Cox has struck out 217 batters while issuing only 44 walks in 210.0 innings pitched.
The Mavericks are coached by Debbie Nichols-Hedrick. She is in her fifth season as head coach and owns a career record of 102-132-1.
THE SERIES The Lady Bears lead the series 35-25-1 which includes two victories and a loss this season. Since Baylor restarted their softball program in 1996, Baylor holds a 16-6 lead in the series.
