Waco, Texas - The Lady Bear softball team scored three runs in the fifth to come from behind and defeat the Missouri Tigers, 3-1, Saturday in Waco.
Baylor raised its record to 37-20 on the season and 6-9 in Big 12 play while Missouri dropped to 27-25 overall and 4-10 in conference action. The two teams will meet again on Sunday in Waco at 1:00 p.m. Baylor's three seniors, Naomi Fitzgerald, Meredith Miller and Jennifer Polk, will be honored before the game.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when center fielder Karen Williams laid down a bunt and Baylor catcher Ryan Stukel's throw to first sailed into the right field corner and Williams came around to score. The Lady Bears came charging back in the bottom of the inning though. With two out and bases loaded, second baseman Stacey Hundley singled to left center field to score a run. Two more runs would scored on the same play when Williams overthrew third base, sending the ball into the Tigers' dugout.
Baylor senior Naomi Fitzgerald and freshman first baseman Colleen Bordages each went 2-for-3 on the day. Joni Miller, pitching her 24th complete game of the season gave up only five hits to the Tigers. The victory raised her record to 26-14. Missouri's pitcher Stephanie Falk, now 21-18, gave up seven Baylor hits in six innings of work.
