Waco, Texas - Seniors Jimmy Walker and Worth Williams were named to the 2001 All-Big 12 Conference Men's Golf Team and head coach Tim Hobby was named Big 12 Coach of the Year, the league office announced Monday.
The trio was honored, by a vote of the conference's coaches, after leading the Bears to their first Big 12 title last week.
Walker has now been named to the All-Big 12 Team all four years of his college career. This spring, the senior from New Braunfels, Texas, has a 71.89 stroke average in 19 rounds. He finished in the top five in four of the seven tournaments, including one tournament title. In 33 tournaments this year, Walker currently ranks second in the Big 12 with a 71.88 stroke average.
This is the first all-Big 12 honor for Williams. The senior from Rockwall, Texas, is a two-time academic all-American who won the individual title at this year's Big 12 Championship. This spring Williams has a 73.63 average in 19 rounds, including two top-five finishes.
Hobby was tabbed as the league's best coach after leading the Bears to their first conference title since winning the Southwest Conference in 1966. He has led Baylor to 11 wins and 35 top-five finishes in 57 tournaments. In January, Hobby was named District VI Coach of the Year as voted on by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Bears will next play in their fourth straight NCAA Regional. The regional field and sites will be announced on May 8th.
