OKLAHOMA CITY - Baylor softball pitcher Joni Miller has been sidelined for the rest of the season. The sophomore right hander from Edmond, Okla., will undergo surgery for the removal of an ovarian cyst.
"We're definitely going to miss Joni both on the field and in the dugout," Head Coach Glenn Moore said. "But, our first concern is Joni's health and well being. This was something that needed to be taken care of immediately. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joni and her family."
The Lady Bears, 38-20 on the season, are in Oklahoma City to participate in the Big 12 Tournament. Baylor, the sixth seed, will play third seeded Texas Tech on Thursday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
Miller finished the season with a 27-14 record and an earned run average of 1.40. In 275.1 innings pitched Miller registered 148 strikeouts and issued only 42 walks. The three-time Big 12 Pitcher of the Week ranks fourth nationally in saves with five and is ninth nationally in victories with 27.
