Baseball Rallies for 13-12 Win Over Southwest Texas

WACO, Texas - Paul Richmond's RBI single in the tenth inning scored Trevor Mote and gave Baylor a 13-12 victory over Southwest Texas State Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark.

Kyle Edens picked up the win in relief for the 17th-ranked Bears (38-17). In three scoreless innings of relief, Edens did not give up a hit or a walk and struck out five.

Southwest Texas (35-18) jumped on Baylor starter Jared Theodorakos in the first inning. Behind six hits and two Bear errors, the Bobcats took a 7-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Bears countered with a run in the first, two in the third and three in the fourth to cut the Bobcat lead to 7-6. After a Tim Hartshorn single and a Chris Durbin double, Kelly Shoppach drove in both runners with a sharp single to center field, cutting the lead to 7-3. Baylor cut the lead to 7-6 when Trevor Mote belted a three-run homer to left.

Southwest Texas built its lead to 12-6 after scoring a run in the sixth and four in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run home run by Mark Younk.

Baylor bounced back in the seventh with four runs of its own. Durbin, who was four-for-six on the night, smacked a two-run home run to left to cut the lead to 12-8. With two outs, David Murphy tripled to deep center, scoring Matt Williams and Ron Zboril.

The Bears scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to send the game to extra innings.

Baylor returns to action Friday night in the series opener with Texas Tech. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark.
