Waco, Texas - After conducting its final day of two-a-day practices Sunday, and with classes starting at Baylor Monday, the Bear football team went through just one afternoon practice session. However, with the season-opener against Arkansas State still almost three weeks away, Head Coach Kevin Steele says that the spirit of two-a-days still exists.

"We're still in a two-a-day tempo," said Steele. "Traditionally, two-a-days end two weeks before your first game, but because of our school calendar and the lateness of our first game, we're short on two-a-days and long on one-a-days, which is OK. So we're still in a two-a-day mode because we've got time to get leg recovery and those type things. We'll start focusing on Arkansas State next week."

In the meantime, Baylor continues to work in much like it did during the previous week.

"We're working on timing and execution. It's pretty high-tempo so we can do a lot of work in a short period of time. The big thing now is to keep looking for playmakers. Those that have been making them are getting more consistent, plus we keep finding new ones every day."

Baylor will practice every afternoon this week before taking the weekend off. The Bears open the 2001 season Sept. 8 at home against the Indians.
