SPRING, Texas - Baylor softball remained perfect during its 2002 fall development season over the weekend, winning five games at the Spring-Klein Tournament hosted by the University of Houston. The Lady Bears posted victories over Galveston College, Southwest Texas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Houston and Sam Houston State. Baylor is now 11-0 during the fall season.

"We played much more aggressive defensively and our pitching was much improved," Baylor head coach Glenn Moore said. "Katie Decker was un-hittable against a very good Louisiana-Lafayette team, and Cristin Vitek showed improvement in a very good performance against Southwest Texas. We saw everyone's top pitcher and that's the way we wanted it. Our short game was very good and we forced some mistakes with aggressive base running."

The Lady Bears opened the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Galveston College. Freshman Amanda Johnson out-dueled Ashley Kirchberg for the victory. Baylor then topped Southwest Texas State 3-1; Vitek got the win for the Lady Bears, while Nicole Neurberg took the loss for the Bearcats. Baylor wrapped up Saturday's action with a 1-0 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette. Decker tossed 11 strikeouts for the Lady Bears in the winning effort; Brooke Mitchell took the loss for ULL.

Decker turned in another solid outing Sunday morning as the Lady Bears defeated Houston and pitcher Jenny Johnson 2-1. Baylor completed the undefeated weekend with a 4-2 victory over Sam Houston State. Vitek picked up her second victory of the tournament, topping SHSU's Rachael Atzenhoffer.

Moore said the Baylor bats struggled some over the weekend as several players showed a tendency to revert back to poor habits at the plate.

"But we hit when we needed to hit," Moore said. "We know time and repetition will get our hitters back on track. So, overall I'm pleased. The purpose for fall training is to see where we are and to locate the areas on which we need to concentrate. It's not all about winning or losing."

Baylor plays its final fall tournament this weekend at the Texas A&M Fall Classic. The Lady Bears face Temple College, Blinn College and Stephen F. Austin.
