Two of Baylor's head coaches spoke to the media at Tuesday's press luncheon. Below are excerpts from their comments.
Head Volleyball Coach Brian Hosfeld:
On last week's results:
"We're coming off not a good loss against Kansas. We didn't play well enough to beat a balanced team. Missouri is much more balanced than Kansas."
On this week's schedule:
"We've also been tweaking the lineup, with Laura Daniela healthier; she'll get in and take some swings... We're looking forward to that."
"Everybody else is as healthy as can be. We're trying to improve our individual skills here in the first round of conference play before getting into the second round."
On this season's difficulties:
"It's frustrating being 40 or 50 in the country; it's not my goal to be there. It's been rougher than we expected it to be... But this team is responding... We're working on it; hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we can make something happen this year."
Head Football Coach Kevin Steele:
On last week's loss to Texas A&M:
"We had spurts where we ran the ball, spurts where we threw the ball [well] -- then we'd give it away. You can't move the ball when you give it away."
"All in all, we need to run the football better; that will takea some of the pressure off the throwing game. We can run the ball better and we will run the ball better."
"I wasn't surprised what we saw from Rashad [Armstrong, Baylor RB]. We're very close, if not already there, to having two halfbacks who can play at any time."
On this week's game at Colorado:
"We're preparing to play the defending Big 12 champion... We're going out there to face a football team that is kind of a throwback. They are very physical, and run the ball a lot... They've got the nation's leading rusher, who is averaging seven yards a carry... They replaced their quarterback after the second game; he does well at what they ask him to do."
"Defensively, they are extremely fast, they run very well. They are big and strong up front... We're going to have to play very sound football -- step up and stop the run, or at least manage the run."
"[The altitude] has never been a problem, in my opinion. I've been there a bunch of times, with Nebraska and then playing at Mile High in the NFL. We've never had it be a problem or a question."
On quarterback Aaron Karas:
"Aaron is the starting quarterback... He's getting more aware and has a better understanding that he can't take chances with the football."
