DALLAS, Texas - Baylor newcomer Angela Marvin was named the Big 12 Runner of the Week, the Conference office announced on Tuesday.

A freshman from Kingwood, Texas, Marvin had a strong performance as she took fourth overall and second among the University women at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday. She clocked a time of 21:37 on the 5,000-meter A&M golf course.

Marvin was the top finisher for the Baylor women's team. Competing with a "B" squad, the Bears took eighth place out of 21 teams.

The Texas A&M Invitational was only the second collegiate competition for the Baylor newcomer. Marvin also ran at the Great American Cross Country Festival in September. She finished 76th in that race with a time of 19:56 on the 5,000 meter course.

Marvin is the first Baylor Cross Country runner to earn Big 12 honors during the 2002 campaign.
