DALLAS, Texas - Nine Baylor cross country runners earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 accolades, the conference office announced today.
To be eligible for first-team academic all-league recognition student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 or better GPA and must have participated in 60 percent of the team's races.
The Bears placed seven women and two men on the all-academic squads. Of those seven, junior Megan McCoin and sophomore Lindsey Price were recognized for maintaining perfect 4.0 GPA's throughout their Baylor careers. They were two of only 17 runners in the conference to achieve that honor. Other women earning the conference's academic accolades include Leah Marbach, Katherine Duncan, Stephanie Bennett, Emily Bonilla and April Hurst.
Juniors Matt Chance and Kyle King were the academic award winners for the men's squad. Both athletes earned first-team honors from the conference.
Baylor cross country will return to action Sat., Nov. 2 when the Bears travel to Columbia, Mo. for the 2002 Big 12 Conference Championships.
