WACO, Texas - Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore called the team's first fall tournament encouraging as the Lady Bears finished 6-0 at the 2002 Baylor Fall Classic. This was the first of three tournaments for Baylor during the fall developmental season.

The weekend began with a pair of victories over Oklahoma Christian; the Lady Bears won the first game 5-3 and the second game 6-0. Katie Decker and Joni Miller picked up the wins, respectively. Baylor closed out Saturday's competition with a 7-3 victory over McLennan Community College, pounding 12 hits off MCC pitching. Cristin Vitek earned the win for the Lady Bears.

Miller and Vitek got Baylor off to a terrific start Sunday, combining to toss a perfect game in a 7-0 Baylor win over Seminole State. The Lady Bears tossed two more shutouts on the day as Vitek led BU to a 7-0 triumph over Temple College and Decker pitched Baylor to an 8-0 victory over Grayson College.

Moore said he was pleased with the team's play and that four hitters really stood out for the Bears - Sarah Caudle, Carrie Leerberg, Kelly Levesque and freshman Harmony Schwethelm.

"Kelly Levesque was simply unbelievable," said Moore, who watched his batters tally 65 hits in the six games. "She hit the ball hard, played the long game and the short game, and really put a lot of pressure on the defense. Harmony was a pleasant surprise. We knew what she was capable of doing, but she probably exceeded our expectations, hitting the ball well from both sides of the plate. Leerberg had some big hits in key situations, and Caudle played really well.

"Overall, this was a good performance for us. The girls are probably further along than what we thought going into the weekend. We made a lot of good decisions on the bases, which is key for us with our speed. We forced the other teams to make mistakes and then took advantage of those mistakes."

Baylor returns to action this Saturday and Sunday at the Spring-Klein Tournament.. The Lady Bears face Southern Mississippi, Howard College, Louisiana-Lafayette, Sam Houston State and host Houston in the two-day event.
