BOULDER, Colo. - Laura Daniela Lloreda established a career best with 17 kills and Baylor reached 10.0 team kills for the first time in nearly two months, but it was not enough as the Bears dropped a 30-22, 30-25, 30-26 decision to Colorado here Wednesday in Big 12 Conference volleyball action. Baylor falls to 9-21 on the season with the loss, 2-17 in conference play. Colorado improves to 15-14 overall and 9-10 in league play.

Lloreda led all players in kills and also had eight digs. Tisha Schwartz added 12 kills and 11 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Stella Odion led the Bears with five blocks, while Alison Heffner and Schwartz added four blocks each. Jillian Mazzarella added six kills and led the Bears with 22 assists, and Emily Huston had 17 assists and three blocks.

Colorado out-hit Baylor by nearly 100 points as the Buffs hit .217 as a team and held the Bears to a .120 clip. The difference in the match, though, was at the service line. Colorado finished the match with seven aces and only one error, while Baylor managed just two service aces and committed seven errors.

Neither offense was impressive in game one as the Bears hit .070 (15-12-43) and the Buffaloes hit .091 (10-7-33). However, Colorado won the game at the service line with five aces and no errors. Meanwhile, Baylor did not register an ace in the opener and committed three errors.

Both teams improved offensively in the second game; Baylor hit .238 (16-6-42), and Colorado hit .295 (19-6-44). While the Buffaloes were stronger on the attack, it was again the service game that cost the Bears in game two. Colorado had two aces with one error, while Baylor did not record an ace and made three errors.

Game three was tight the entire way. With Colorado leading 24-20, the Bears scored four straight points and tied the game at 24-24. However, the Buffaloes recaptured the lead on the next point thanks to a Monique Gerlach kill and never trailed again.

Gerlach finished with 12 kills, and Meghan Barkman led the Buffs with 13 kills.

Baylor concludes its 2002 season Saturday, hosting Oklahoma for a 7 p.m. CST match at the Ferrell Center. The Sooners defeated the Bears in four games earlier this season at Norman, Okla.
