Soccer Announces 2002 Schedule

WACO, Texas - Baylor head soccer coach Nick Cowell announced the team's 2002 fall schedule Monday.

The Bears will open 2002 by hosting TCU, Louisiana-Lafayette and Mississippi State in the Baylor Labor Day Classic. Baylor faces Louisiana-Lafayette in the season opener Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.

For the second year in a row, the Bears' schedule includes six teams from last season's NCAA Tournament field: Kansas, Nebraska, SMU, Southwest Texas, Texas and Texas A&M. Five of those six (all but Texas) will face the Bears in Waco.

Baylor begins the 2002 Big 12 Conference season Sept. 27 against Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. The Bears will host Big 12 rivals Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas A&M in Waco.

As part of the team's spring 2002 schedule, the Bears will host a team of Japanese college all-stars Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field. The game is part of an annual tour by the Japanese team, the all-stars will also play Mary Hardin-Baylor (Feb. 21, 4 p.m., Betty Lou Mays Field) and SMU (Feb. 23, 3:30 p.m., Houston Wildfire Club) during their time in the United States.
