Final Stats

WACO, Texas - Freshman righthander Cristin Vitek picked up two wins today when her Baylor squad posted victories over the visiting Northwestern State Demons. The wins, 3-0 and 2-1, moved the Lady Bears to 16-2 on the season while the Demons dropped to 10-11.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Vitek limited the Demons to just two hits while striking out eight. Northwestern State's first baseman, Lindsay Leftwich, collected both hits off of Vitek. Baylor scored a run in the second inning when Kristin Lancaster singled to shortstop. Lena Keine came in as a pinch runner and advanced to second on Danelle Arnold's sacrifice bunt. Keine moved to third on April Luce's groundout to second and scored on Stacey Hundley's single to left field.

Baylor added two more runs in the third inning when Carrie Leerberg led off the inning with a single to right field. Kelly Levesque then doubled down the left field line advancing Leerberg to third. Kim Wilmouth reached base on an error and advanced to second on the throw and Leerberg scored from third. Wilmouth scored when Sarah Caudle singled up the middle.

The Lady Bears collected nine hits in game one, three of which were by Kelly Levesque, while Stacey Hundley accounted for two. Vitek went the distance for Baylor while Crista Miller took the loss for Northwestern State.

In the second game Joni Miller pitched the first five innings for Baylor before yielding to Vitek. Miller allowed five hits and one run while striking out four. Vitek limited the Demons to two hits and struck out three in two innings of work. Amanda Ortego was the loser for Northwestern State.

The Demons got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the first. A single and a stolen base by Nicole Martin resulted in a run when she scored on Erin Mancuso's single up the middle. The Lady Bears countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the stanza. Sarah Caudle singled and advanced to second on an error and took third on a wild pitch. She scored on a throwing error by the second baseman.

Northwestern State threatened in the sixth when Annie Johnston doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on a Baylor throwing error. However, that scoring threat was snuffed when she was picked off third base by Baylor catcher Danelle Arnold.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sarah Caudle collected her third hit of the game, a single through the right side. She moved to second on Lancaster's sacrifice bunt and scored on Arnold's double down the left field line.

Caudle was 3-for-3 and scored both Baylor runs. Vitek's record now stands at 6-1 while Ortego drops to 3-5.

The Lady Bears return to action on Thursday, Feb. 21 when they host Stephen F. Austin. The doubleheader begins at 5:00 p.m. at Baylor's Getterman Stadium.
