Box Score

WACO, Texas - Sarah Caudle and Nan Wilkins opened the bottom of the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles here Tuesday night to give Baylor softball a 1-0 victory over New Mexico State.

With the win, Baylor improves to 34-8 on the season and 19-1 at Getterman Stadium. The Lady Bears have now won 20 straight home games against non-Big 12 opponents, dating back to last season. New Mexico State falls to 14-22.

NMSU starter Ryon Adams had scattered five hits entering the fifth, but they had all been singles. Caudle dropped a stand-up double down the left-field line to lead off the inning, and Wilkins followed with a liner to left-center to plate Caudle. Both finished 2-for-3 on the night, accounting for four of Baylor's seven hits.

Meanwhile, the combination of Katie Decker and Joni Miller kept the heavy-swinging Aggie bats at bay. Decker allowed two hits with a walk and two strikeouts in five innings of work. Miller (12-4) surrendered just one hit, a one-out single in the top of the seventh, with two strikeouts in two innings for the win.

That lone hit against Miller made things interesting. NMSU catcher Christine Stephens looped a single into right field and advanced to second on a passed ball. However, Miller got Jody Spino to pop up to Wilkins in left and then struck out Amber Logsdon to end the game.

Adams (9-5) pitched well but was saddled with the loss. She was touched for seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.

Baylor returns to Big 12 action Wednesday, hosting Texas at 6:30 p.m. CST.
