Box Score

LINCOLN, Neb. - Baylor softball was held to one hit here Friday night. However, Danelle Arnold's second-inning solo home run was all the Lady Bears needed, upsetting No. 4 Nebraska 1-0 in Big 12 Conference action.

Baylor (35-9, 5-2) posted its fourth win over a top 10 team in the program's 21-year history, two have come this season. Nebraska (29-6, 2-1) is the highest ranked team to ever fall to Baylor and saw its national-best 23-game winning streak snapped in the process.

Arnold, who transferred to Baylor this season, lifted a Peaches James' 2-1 pitch over the left-center fence for her fourth home run of the season. James did not allow another hit, walked only one and struck out four.

However, Baylor hurlers Joni Miller and Cristin Vitek were nearly just as sharp. Miller (13-4) tossed four innings, scattered three hits walked one and struck out three. Vitek came in to start the fifth inning and struck out seven of the 10 batters she faced, allowing only a two-out walk in the sixth.

Nebraska had two good scoring chances. Kim Ogee led off the bottom of the first with a double down the leftfield line and moved to third on a one-out passed ball. However, Miller got groundouts from the next two batters to end the threat. In the fourth, Leigh Suhr drew a two-out walk and moved to second on James' second hit of the night, a sharp line drive back up the middle. Miller then struck out Amanda Buchholz to get out of the jam.

This was Baylor's first victory over Nebraska since March 25, 1986, snapping a 15-game losing streak to the Huskers and getting the program's first-ever victory in Lincoln.

Baylor and Nebraska face each other again here Saturday at 1 p.m. CST.
