BATON ROUGE, La. - Senior pole vaulter Jim Autenreith concluded his Baylor career tying his best ever mark at an NCAA Championships Friday in third-day action from LSU's Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
Clearing 17-4 ?, Autenreith placed seventh in the nation and matched his height from last year's outdoor national meet. It marks the second straight year Autenreith has earned All-American accolades.
Earning All-American honors in the 400-meter hurdles for the fourth consecutive season, senior Michael Smith placed seventh overall, posting his third best time of the year (50.46).
Fellow senior Chava Demart matched Smith's feat placing seventh in the women's 400 hurdles to earn All-American honors in the event for the second straight year. Demart's time of 58.02 was her second best of the season and ranks as the sixth best time in Baylor school history.
The 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships will conclude tomorrow, June 1, with the Bears' Darold Williamson competing in the 400 meters and both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays closing out the championship meet.
