Waco, Texas - The last two Baylor football players to report for preseason drills arrived early Monday morning when wide receivers Vince Copeland and Charles Radford made it to Waco after driving from California.
The Reedley (Calif.) JC products were finishing summer school courses, which caused them to miss last week's reporting date. Both completed paperwork Monday that allowed them to participate in the Bears' two-hour, 15-minute afternoon workout.
"They can run," Head Coach Kevin Steele said of Copeland and Radford. "You can tell that they are very accomplished route-runners. They've got good speed. They catch the ball very well. And they're pleasant guys. They want to help make this team better.
"We've got plenty of wide receivers. The big thing about that group is that they are a competitive group of guys, and throwing two more out there really breeds more competition."
Steele praised the Baylor offensive line Monday following the team's third day of full-squad workouts.
"The offensive line really looks like a solid group, and then you throw that second group of linemen out there and you really don't miss much, which is a positive. Our depth at that position is a big help."
The Bears' first day of full-pad practices is Wednesday. Baylor opens the 2002 season Aug. 31 on the road against California.
