Waco, Texas - Baylor's first-year football players worked out for the first time Wednesday, spending an hour in the afternoon getting introduced to basics of college football.
"This was a grooming day, an orientation day, an adjustment day," Head Coach Kevin Steele said. "We tried to give them a little flavor of what it's like to be out here. They're nervous. I think they were a little tired after (stretching). A lot of that is just nervousness. So we want them to get things down mentally and get them acclimated to the practice field and understanding that the tempo is going to be entirely different when the varsity gets out here Saturday."
There were 23 players participating Wednesday, including wide receiver J.T. Thompson.
Thompson, junior college transfer, reported to campus a day late, Tuesday, after finishing up course work at Kilgore Junior College.
The newcomers will work two more times Thursday. The varsity reports Thursday afternoon, with the first day of full-squad practices scheduled for Saturday.
