Columbus, Ohio - Daria Patapova, Izabella Mijic and Alison Bradley opened the OSU/Prince Cup with a first round win then lost in the second round but Vida Mulec, and Stephanie Balzert stayed undefeated in the first day of competition.

Mulec, a senior and the qualifying draw's No. 1 seed, defeated Notre Dame's Liz Donahue 6-0, 6-3 in the second round after a first round bye. Balzert also remained undefeated today by defeating Oklahoma State's Jackie Leskovar 6-2,6-2 after drawing a first round bye.

In doubles play Patapova/Mijic defeated Notre Dame's Donahue/Nelson 9-7 in the first round while Mulec/Balzart drew a first round bye. In the second round, Patapova/Mijic lost to Penn State's Wang/Marton 8-5, and Mulec/Balzart lost to Notre Dame's S.J. Connelly/Smith 8-5.

Notre Dame leads the way with 5 players advancing to the Round of 16 in singles, and Notre Dame, Penn State, and Eastern Michigan each advanced three teams into the doubles quarterfinals. Doubles play will continue at 3:30 pm on Saturday. Singles play will resume Saturday at 9:00am at the Stickney Tennis Center.
