WACO, Texas - Baylor seniors Ethan Kelley and Reggie Newhouse will be among the participants Jan. 25 when the annual Rotary Gridiron Classic College All-Star Game kicks off in Orlando, Fla.
The fifth annual game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and kickoff at 2:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, January 25 at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando.
Newhouse, a senior receiver last season, became Baylor's all-time receptions and receiving yards leader during the 2002 season and ranks among the top four all-time in the Big 12's receptions and receiving yardage lists. He also finished his career fourth in Baylor history in career TD receptions. He is just the second player in Baylor history, and one of only eight in Big 12 history, to eclipse the 2,000-yard mark for a career.
Kelley, a senior defensive tackle who began his Baylor career as a starter on the offensive line, led the Bear defense with 75 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 14 quarterback hurries.
Among the other top participants are signal callers Brad Banks of Iowa and Nate Hybl of Oklahoma, who lead the 100-plus players that collectively makeup the two teams in the Team Florida versus Team USA format. (oth Newhouse and Kelley will play for Team USA.)
Banks, a Belle Glade, Fla., native, was named the Associated Press Player of the Year for his efforts during the 2002 season. He also finished second in the Heisman race. Hybl earned MVP honors in the Rose Bowl by leading the Sooners past Washington State, 34-14.
