WACO, Texas - Baylor's softball continues fall development action this weekend, traveling to Houston, Texas, for the Spring-Klein Fall Tournament. The Lady Bears face four Division I teams, including 2003 College World Series participant Louisiana-Lafayette.
Last weekend, the Lady Bears posted an overall record of 5-1-2 at the Baylor Fall Tournament, using split squads for the eight games. The Green team won the overall team title, going 3-0-1 and out-scoring the opposition 21-3.
"There were no real surprises," Baylor head coach Glenn Moore said of the Lady Bears' performance last weekend. "We saw some good things and some bad things, but nothing drastic either way. We have much work to do over the next three weeks. We know we are talented and have depth. That is a good starting point, but it is just that - a starting point."
Baylor's results from last weekend's tournament are as follows:
Game 1: Green 8, OK Christian 0 (Katie Decker 2-hitter)
Game 2: White 10, OK Christian 0 (Cristin Vitek no-hitter)
Game 3: Green 2, Temple CC 2 (Tessa Lynam 2-run HR, 5-hitter)
Game 4: White 3, Navarro CC 0 (Lisa Ferguson 2-hitter)
Game 5: White 2, Grayson CC 2 (Vitek 4-hitter)
Game 6: Green 3, Navarro CC 1 (Decker, Lynam combine 5-hitter)
Game 7: Green 8, McLennan CC 0 (Lynam no-hitter)
Game 8: Temple CC 1, White 0 (Ferguson 3-hitter)
"We saw strong offensive performances from Lynam, Carrie Leerberg, Kelly Osburn and Danelle Arnold," Moore said. "We have a lot of work to do on the bases, but that takes time."
Baylor had 12 stolen bases over the weekend with freshman Kylie Conroy swiping three. Moore said Ferguson, a freshman right-hander from Fort Worth, Texas, was the bright spot of the weekend.
"She showed the poise of a veteran during the pressure situations and was clocked in the upper 60s throughout the weekend," Moore said. "We saw some good things in the circle for our first outing, but we must keep it in perspective. The competition will be much stronger in the spring."
