WACO, Texas - Mike Pankratz and Cory Van Allen, members of Baylor's baseball team, visited Bell's Hill Elementary Wednesday.
Pankratz, a junior outfielder from Katy, and Van Allen, a freshman pitcher from Sugar Land, spoke to fifth-grade physical education classes and discussed the importance of education. They reminded the children to keep making good grades.
"If you don?t make good grades," Van Allen said, "then you can?t play sports."
Pankratz agreed, telling the students that he knows school is hard, but education is very important.
The children also asked the players questions and learned pitching and catching techniques. Later, the students divided into groups and worked on their new baseball skills with the players.
The athletes enjoyed the visit with the young kids. "It was a great experience for both us and the children," Pankratz said.
The voluntary visit is a way that the Baylor athletes help give back to the local community.
