WACO, Texas - Following Baylor's 42-30 upset of Colorado last Saturday, two Bears received national recognition for their part in the memorable victory. Senior outside safety Derrick Cash was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Dallas Morning News, while senior running back Rashad Armstrong was named Helmet Sticker Performer of the Week by Mark May on ESPN's College Gameday Scoreboard Show.
Cash led a Baylor defensive charge that held Colorado to 57 yards rushing on 27 carries with no rush longer than eight yards. Cash also forced a fumble on a sack of CU quarterback Erik Greenberg midway through the third quarter. That fumble was recovered and returned for a touchdown, giving Baylor a lead it never relinquished.
On the day, Cash finished with eight tackles, including six solo efforts; he also broke up a pass and had one quarterback hurry to go along with his sack.
Armstrong, the current Big 12 rushing leader at 117.8 yards per game, rushed for 166 yards on 37 carries with two touchdowns. He only got stronger as the game progressed, rushing for 115 yards on 15 carries with both touchdowns in the games final 22 minutes.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Armstrong scampered into the end zone from 55 yards out, the longest run of his career. Armstrong's rushing total was the 13th-best single-game tally in school history and the best by a Bear back since 1995. His 37 carries tied for second all-time at Baylor, most since 1975. Armstrong has now rushed for 100-plus yards in five of his last seven games, including three straight Big 12 contests.
Baylor, currently on a three-game winning streak, returns to action this Saturday at Texas A&M. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. CDT at Kyle Field.
