WACO, Texas - Baylor football placed two players on the Academic All-District VI Team, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Junior wide receiver John Martin earned first-team honors, while senior linebacker Stephen Sepulveda was named to the second team.

Martin, a communications studies major from Stillwater, Okla., started each of the first four games for the Bears before a season-ending bout with mononucleosis. He made 12 catches for 139 yards in those four games. In three seasons at Baylor, Martin has 54 receptions for 635 yards and two touchdowns. By virtue of his first-team selection, Martin is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

Sepulveda, a business administration major from Highland Park, Texas, has been a mainstay on Baylor's defense for the past three seasons. This year, he is sixth on the squad with 40 tackles to go along with 1.5 tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery. Sepulveda has tallied 166 career tackles with 11.5 stops behind the line and two sacks.

Student-athletes are selected for academic all-district teams by voting members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. In order to be eligible for the teams, the student-athlete must participate in at least 60 percent of his team's games as of Oct. 15 and maintain a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. Freshmen and first-year students are not eligible for the teams.
