The Bears will be in Waco on Saturday when theyopen up Big 12 play against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 10 a.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center, then will travel to Fort Worth for a 12 p.m. match-up against the TCU Horned Frogs at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Baylor won the doubles point for the second consecutive match against Miami Fl. on Saturday but could not hold on in singles action to take down the Hurricane.
In singles action, Vida Mulec was upset by Miami's Megan Bradely on Saturday and Izabella Mijic added to her three game win streak on the season after beating Sihem Bennacer 6-1, 6-4. Barbora Blahtiakova lost her first match since October 18, 2002 when she was defeated Saturday by Miami's Melissa Applebaum
The Red Raiders enter this weekend's match with a 0-2 record after two recent losses to Air Force and UT-San Antonio. The Horned Frogs have started off their season flawless so far with a 3-0 record and a #26 national ranking. The Frogs recently defeated North Texas 7-0
The Bears take on the Red Raiders Sat., Feb 15 at the Baylor Tennis Center at 10 a.m. and the TCU Horned Frogs at noon on Sun., Feb. 16 in Fort Worth. Results will be posted on baylorbears.com. Live internet updates will be posted for Saturday's match.
Team Notes... - The Bears' 2003 spring schedule pits the them against 19 ranked teams, three of which are currently in the top 20. - With Vida Mulec's doubles win against Marquette she is now tied with Frida Bojesson Baylor's on all-time (5) career doubles wins, with 69 -The Women's tennis team is 21-5 in its two-year history at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Mulec Named Preseason All-Big 12 Senior Vida Mulec recieved preseason All-Big 12 honors in a vote of league coaches. The doubles team of Mulec/Anna Monclova was also tabbed preseason All-Big 12. Mulec, a native of Maribor, Slovenia, is currently ranked No. 43 nationally. She ended her fall season with a 8-5 record and made it to the finals of the ITA Southwest Regionals.
Baylor in the Rankings The latest Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, released Feb. 12, showed the Bears stay at the No. 45 spot The Bears are currently 1-3 on the season after losing a tight match to Miami Fl. 4-3 at the Baylor Tennis Center last Saturday. Vida Mulec is the lone Bear in the rankings at No. 43 in singles.
Head Coach Joey Scrivano Baylor Head Coach Joey Scrivano is in his first season at the helm of the women's tennis program. He has a career record of 61-21 which includes his three year stint at the University of South Alabama (60-18). While at South Alabama he led the program to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances in three years including a quarterfinals finish in 2000.
