WACO, Texas - #45 Baylor (2-4,1-0) vs. Iowa State (1-3, 0-2)

Sun. Feb.23, 2003 - 1 p.m. Baylor Tennis Center

The Bears will return to Waco on Sunday after sweeping the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday in Waco and then going to Fort Worth and losing to the TCU Horned Frogs 5-2.

On Saturday, Baylor won the doubles point for the third consecutive match and then went on to sweep the Raiders on each court in straight sets. Sunday, Baylor lost the doubles point and couldn't hold on in singles when they lost to the Frogs.

In doubles play, the duo of Stephanie Balzert and Daria Potapova have been playing strong, winning both sets last weekend, 8-6 over Kovacic/Lombard from Tech on Saturday and 8-1 against Lopez/Janklin from TCU on Sunday. With their win on Sunday, they have started a three-game win streak which dates back to their win over Miami on Feb. 8.

In singles action, Vida Mulec had a mild groin pull in her doubles match against Texas Tech on Saturday which kept her out of singles action for the day. She returned on Sunday to be upset by TCU's Paty Aburto in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

Anna Moncolova picked up where Mulec was injured in the No. 1 spot on Saturday and won over Irina Terschenko 6-4, 6-1, but slipped up in the No. 3 spot on Sunday when she played Rosa Perez and lost 6-4, 7-6.

Izabela Mijic and Daria Potapova had huge weeks this past week. Mijic has continued her winning streak on the season, extending it to five games after she defeated Kendall Brooks on Saturday 6-3, 6-4, and winning against Gloriann Lopez on Sunday 6-3, 6-3. Potapova lost one game in four sets over this past week and has begun her first win streak on the season at three matches. Potapova won on Saturday over Beverly Dawson 6-0, 6-0, and then continued her dominance on Sunday winning 6-0, 6-1.

The Cyclones enter this weekend's match with a 1-3 record after a recent loss to Texas 7-0 on Sunday, and a cancellation against Northern Illinois on Friday due to inclement weather. The Cyclones other conference loss came to Texas A&M on Feb. 1 when they were defeated 6-1.

The Bears take on the Cyclones Sun., Feb 23 at the Baylor Tennis Center at 1 p.m. Results will be posted on baylorbears.com. Live internet updates will be posted for Sunday's match.
