SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Freezing rain on Monday afternoon and more ice throughout the night forced the cancellation of the final two rounds of the Roadrunner Invitational. The results from the first round of competition on Monday stand as the final results for the tournament.
Sophomore Ryan Baca (37-38=75) shot an opening round 75 on Monday and helped the Bears to a tie for sixth at the Roadrunner Invitational.
Baylor (309) as a team shot 25-over par and tied with Wichita State. Texas Tech (300) won the event, two strokes ahead of Arkansas (302). North Texas and Kansas State (305) tied for third and Iowa State (307) was fifth.
Three Bears finished in the top-30. Senior Trevar Matheson (39-38=77) played a solid opening round to tie for 19th. Junior Jon Antunes (40-38=78) shot 7-over par Monday and tied for 30th.
Junior Will Doughtie (34-45=79) shot a 45 on the back nine and tied for 38th. Junior Austin Burke (41-43=84), who was competing in his first collegiate tournament, finished 69th out of 82 golfers.
No individual on any team shot par in the rain-filled opening round Monday morning.
After the truncated tournament, the Bears will return to competition March 10-11 at the Louisiana Classics, which will be contested at the Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La.
