Women's Tennis Hosts No. 17 Texas on Wednesday

WACO, Texas - The Bears are in Waco Wednesday to take on conference rival Texas at 6 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center. The match with Texas was originally scheduled for March 6 but was postponed. Baylor will travel to Oxford, Miss. to take on the Ole Miss Rebels at noon Saturday.

Baylor is coming off a very successful week, winning three out of four matches and losing a heartbreaker to No. 25 Illinois, 4-3, on Sunday which came down to the last match. Last Saturday the Bears played host to Missouri where they gave the Tigers their first Big 12 loss on the season; the Bears remained undefeated with a 5-2 victory. On Thursday the Bears traveled to Malibu, Calif. and defeated No. 48 Pepperdine 4-3, and on Saturday they stayed in their winning ways by defeating Kansas State 4-3 and moving to 4-0 in Big 12 play.

In singles play this week Daria Potapova continued her five-game winning streak and has won nine of her last 10 matches with her only loss coming to Debbie Laocque of Arizona 7-5, 7-6 on February 28. Izabela Mijic was starting another run before she lost to Brianna Knue of Illinois 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Mijic has won 11 of her last 13 dual matches.

In doubles action the Bears won the doubles point three out of four matches with their only doubles loss coming at Pepperdine. Stephanie Balzert and Izabela Mijic won three doubles matches in a row this past week after being paired up for the first time since Feb. 2.

The Bears' take on the Longhorns Sat. Mar. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center and travel to Mississippi to take on the Runnin Rebels at noon on Saturday. Results for both upcoming matches will be posted on baylorbears.com. Live Internet updates will be posted for Wednesday's match.

Team Notes...
- Vida Mulec was named Big 12 conference player of the week after her upset of No. 27 Urska Juric of Missouri, 4-6, 7-5 (10-5), this past Tuesday.
- The Bears' 2003 spring schedule pits them against 19 ranked teams, three of which are currently in the top 20.
- With Vida Mulec's doubles win against Texas Tech she now leads Frida Borjesson Baylor's on all-time (5) career doubles wins, with 70.
-The Women's tennis team is 25-8 in its two-year history at the Baylor Tennis Center. Daria Potapova is currently on a five-match winning streak and has won nine out of her last 10 dual matches.
- The Baylor vs. Texas match that was scheduled for March 6 was moved to March 19 at 6 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
