Baseball Sweeps Oklahoma with 10-3 Victory

WACO, Texas - No. 8 Baylor scored five runs in the first inning and coasted to a 10-3 win Sunday and the series sweep of No. 30 Oklahoma at Baylor Ballpark.
A season-best crowd of 3,522 fans watched the Bears (21-6, 5-1 Big 12) sweep the Sooners (11-9, 0-3 Big 12) for the first time in program history.
The Bears put together five hits and an error to score five times in the first against Sooner starter Mike Swindell (2-1). Ross Bennett doubled in Baylor's first two runs, and Mark Saccomanno capped off the inning with a two-out, two-run single to up the Bears' lead to 5-0.
Baylor scored four more runs in the fourth off Swindell and reliever David Purcey. Bennett drove in three more runs with his second home run of the weekend, knocking Swindell out of the game, and Michael Griffin greeted Purcey with his fourth home run of the year.
Chris Durbin brought home the Bears' 10th run with a solo home run in the fifth, his team-leading eighth roundtripper.
Baylor starter Sean Walker (4-1) lasted seven innings, the longest outing of his career, and allowed just three runs (only one earned). The sophomore struck out four and walked three, coming out in the eighth after walking the leadoff hitter.
Ryan LaMotta and Andy Pape finished out the game, throwing one scoreless inning each. Both freshmen faced just three batters, with LaMotta striking out two of his three opponents.
Bennett tied his career-high with five RBI and was one of four Bears to record multiple hits on the day. Griffin went 3-for-4 and scored twice; Durbin, Murphy, Bennett and Griffin each scored two runs on the day.
The Bears have won five straight and seven of their last eight games, but will face a strong test Tuesday night in Houston when they face No. 1 Rice. Game time at Reckling Park is set for 7 p.m.
