WACO, Tx. - Everything went Baylor's way on Saturday when they defeated the Kansas Jayhawks, 6-1. After winning the doubles point for the first time in two matches, the Bear's capitalized in singles competition to move to 6-1 in Big 12 play and remain in a first place tie with Texas.
Baylor swept the doubles play for the first time since Feb. 15 when they defeated Texas Tech. The duo of Daria Potapova and Alison Bradley ended their four-game skid with a win over Haycock/Steinbock 8-4. Vida Mulec and Anna Moncolova won in the No. 2 spot over Steinbock/Brown 9-7. Mulec and Moncolova have now won four of their last five doubles matches when paired together in the No. 2 spot. Stephanie Balzert and Izabela Mijic got back in their winning ways after their six-game winning streak came to an end against Texas A&M when they defeated Skoda/Lorenz 8-6 in the No. 3 spot. Balzert and Mijic are 7-1 when paired together in doubles play.
In singles action, Daria Potapova tallied another win on her team high singles winning streak when she defeated Emily Haycock 6-3, 6-3. Potapova now has won nine matches in a row and 13 of her last 14 dual matches. Vida Mulec got back on the winning track by defeating Paige Brown 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot. Stephanie Balzert won her second match in a row in the No. 4 spot beating Christine Skoda 6-2, 6-4. Barbora Blahutiakova started off slow but finished up strong in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Luiza Loureiro. Anna Moncolova ended her six-game losing streak by defeating Courtney Steinbock in a tiebreaker, 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (10-8). Izabela Mijic was defeated by Kim Lorenz 6-3, 6-3.
"I am very pleased to see us win the doubles point after we lossed it Tuesday against A&M," Scrivano said, "The girls are responding well to adjustments and are very confident going into the final stretch of the season."
