LINCOLN, Neb. - The Baylor women's tennis team started their four-game road trip in stunning fashion, sweeping the Nebraska Cornhuskers 7-0, in Lincoln today. With the win, the Bear's move to 9-10, 7-1 in Big 12 play, and remain in a first place tie with Texas in the Big 12 rankings.
The Bear's took the doubles point winning two of three matches. Vida Mulec and Stephanie Balzert were paired up in the No. 1 spot where they defeated Oehme/Ketmayura 8-5. Mulec has now earned her 77th doubles win and has moved into third place all-time in career doubles wins at Baylor. Alison Bradley and Daria Potapova were defeated in the No. 2 spot by the duo of Harvey/Tomkiewicz 8-1. In the No. 3 spot, Izabela Mijic and Barbora Blahutiakova defeated the team of Garcia/Cremieux 8-3.
In singles action, Mulec has won her sixth match out of her last seven as she defeated Ostermann, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 1 spot. Daria Potapova got back on track this week after her nine-match winning streak was snapped last week, when she defeated L. Harvey in the No. 2 spot 0-6, 6-1, 7-5. Stephanie Balzert won in the No. 3 spot over Ketmayura 6-1, 6-3, while Izabela Mijic ended a two-game skid with a win over Oehme. Blahutiakova won in the No. 5 spot over Castillejos 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, and Zuzana Krchnakova earned her first singles win since Feb. 15 beating R. Harvey, 6-2, 7-5.
The Bear's next match will be against #43 Colorado on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Boulder Colorado. Results for the match can be accessed at www.baylorbears.com.
