BOULDER, Col. - The Bear's came out firing on Sunday as they won the doubles point and defeated the #43 Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder. Vida Mulec has continued her hot streak by defeating Dominique Lemperle, 7-5, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles spot. Mulec, who is ranked No. 89, has now won six of her last seven matches including three in a row. With the win the Bears are now 10-10 overall and are in a first place tie with Texas with an 8-1 conference record.
Baylor won the doubles point on Sunday due to the exciting tie-breaker match played in the No. 3 spot by Izabela Mijic and Barbora Blahutiakova when they defeated Jessica Vanderdys and Sarah Burrows 9-8 (4). In other doubles action, Stephanie Balzert and Vida Mulec won in a close match in the No. 2 spot over Morgan Sall and Kendra Strandemo 8-6. In the No. 1 spot, Alison Bradley and Daria Potapova were defeated by Lia Dimingo and Dominique Lemperle 8-3.
In singles play, The Bear's played strong in the five and six spots to come away with the victory. Barbora Blahutiakova defeated Jessica Vanderdys 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot and Zuzana Krchnakova came away with a huge win in the No. 6 spot over Morgan Sall 6-0, 6-2. In other action, Stephanie Balzert was defeated in the No. 2 spot by Katherine Anne Lutgert 6-4, 6-3, Daria Potapova lost her second straight match for the first time since Feb. 1 against Lia Dimingo 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 , and Izabela Mijic was blanked by Kendra Strandemo 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Mijic has now lost three matches in a row for the first time in her career at Baylor.
"This was a huge road win for us. I'm very excited about playing at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State this week," Scrivano said. "Our doubles teams really came through today and they were the difference makers."
The Bear's next match will be against #29 Oklahoma on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Norman, Ok. and then they will travel to Stillwater on Saturday to take on Oklahoma State at 11 a.m.. Results for that match can be accessed at www.baylorbears.com.
