Durbin Named to Golden Spikes Award Watch List

WACO, Texas - Baylor centerfielder Chris Durbin was included among 25 players named to the initial watch list for the 2003 Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the nation's top amateur baseball player.
Durbin, a senior from Wylie, Texas, was one of just three Big 12 players named to the list. Five finalists will be announced in June, with the winner being revealed in July.
Past winners of the award, given out by USA Baseball, include current Major League Baseball stars Robin Ventura, Jason Varitek, Mark Kotsay, Phil Nevin, Pat Burrell, Mark Prior and Baylor's own Jason Jennings, the 1999 National Player of the Year.
