WACO, Texas - Fourth-ranked Texas hit four solo home runs and Amy Bradford pitched six shutout innings as the Longhorns defeated Baylor 4-0 here Wednesday night in Big 12 Conference softball action before a Getterman Stadium record crowd of 979. The Lady Bears fall to 28-23 on the season, 2-11 in Big 12 Conference play. The Longhorns improve to 33-7 and 10-2.

After Baylor starter Katie Decker set the Longhorns down in order in the first, Texas jumped to a 2-0 lead with homers in the second and third innings. Wynter Turner led off the second with her fifth of the season, and Tina Boutelle homered to left-center with two outs in the third.

Texas added two more in the top of the seventh. Martha Sac homered on the first pitch of the inning; two batters later, Lindsay Gardner hit a line drive over the wall in left.

Meanwhile, Bradford (10-2) worked through trouble on a few occasions but kept the Lady Bears off the scoreboard. Baylor had four hits and had two batters reach via error. Lizi Sowers pitched the final frame perfectly with one strikeout.

Decker (7-6) lasted 6.1 innings, allowing eight hits with two strikeouts. Sarah Caudle retired the final two Longhorn hitters.

Baylor returns to action this weekend, hosting Missouri to close out its 2003 home schedule. The Lady Bears and the Tigers play Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at noon.

Notes: Texas now leads the all-time series 11-1. ... The previous Getterman Stadium record crowd was 840, established earlier this month against Nebraska. Wednesday's crowd was the third-largest this season in the Big 12 Conference. Nationally, only Fresno State, Arizona, Cal State Fullerton and Texas have had larger crowds. ... Stacey Hundley extended her hitting streak to eight games, tying her career best.
