WACO, Texas - The 37th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team halted No. 24 Oklahoma's six-match winning streak with a 5-2 win Thursday evening at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. The Sooners dropped to 7-3 in the league and 18-4 on the season while the Bears stayed atop the Big 12 Conference standings improving to 9-1 and also moved to 11-10 overall.
"We played a great match," said Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano. "We were very focused. We knew what was at stake and the girls took care of business, I'm very proud of them."
Baylor took the doubles point early on with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Stephanie Balzert and Vida Mulec and Barbora Blahutiakova and Izabela Mijic, playing at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, posted identical 8-6 victories.
The Bears clinched the match with wins at the No. 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles positions to claim their ninth Big 12 win of the season. Winners for Baylor were Balzert, Mijic, Blahutiakova and Zuzana Krchnakova.
Baylor finishes the regular season Saturday, April 19, at No. 33 Oklahoma State. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CST) at the Dubois Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
