WACO, Texas - Jon Antunes, Trevar Matheson and Will McDonald were named to the 2003 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced Tuesday.
Antunes, a junior management major from Belton, receives the honor for the second consecutive season. He has competed in seven of the Bears' 10 tournaments this season. He currently ranks fourth on the team with a 77.47 stroke average through 19 rounds.
Matheson, a senior accounting major from Victoria, B.C., has competed in each of Baylor's last seven tournaments. His 73.63 stroke average this year is an improvement of more than five strokes from his average last season.
McDonald, a redshirt freshman recreation major from Birmingham, Ala, has a 73.93 stroke average that ranks third on the squad. McDonald has finished in the top-30 individually in two of his last three tournaments. The academic all-league squad consists of 23 first-team and eight second team members. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade-point-average, while the second team are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
Baylor's men's golf team will be in action April 28 and 29 when they compete at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
