HEAD COACH GLENN MOORE
Glenn Moore is in his third season as head coach at Baylor, coming to Waco after a stellar three-year tenure at Louisiana State. In his first season at Baylor, Moore led the Lady Bears to a 38-22 overall record and a sixth-place, 7-9 mark in the Big 12 Conference. Last season, he guided the Lady Bears to even greater successes with more than 50 team and individual, single-game and single-season school records. Baylor finished 46-18 overall and 10-8 in the Big 12 Conference, establishing school marks for victories in a season, conference victories in a season and highest conference finish (fourth). Moore also led Baylor to a national ranking for the second straight season and two wins over top 10 teams, as many top-10 victories as the Lady Bears had amassed in the previous 16 seasons of the program's existence. Earlier this season, Moore claimed his 100th victory as Baylor's head coach with the Lady Bears 3-0 triumph against Texas Tech. He is now 112-65 (.633) in three seasons at Baylor. Moore has a career record of 251-107 (.701); he posted a 22-17 mark in his first year as a collegiate head coach at William Carey in Mississippi. Moore is 229-88 (.722) at the Division I level.
THE TEXAS A&M SERIES
This is the 49th meeting between Baylor and Texas A&M - the third most-played series in Baylor softball history - with the Aggies holding a commanding 36-11-1 advantage in the all-time series. However, the Lady Bears have won six of the last nine meetings, and Baylor is 9-6-1 against A&M in the last 16 meetings. The Lady Bears swept the season series this year, winning 4-0 in Waco and 3-0 at College Station. However, the Aggies defeated Baylor twice at the Big 12 Conference Tournament, winning 5-1 in the first round and 1-0 in an elimination game. Last month, Baylor defeated the 19th-ranked Aggies 2-1 in Waco. Texas A&M leads the series 12-3-1 in games played at College Station, but Baylor has won two of its last three games played there.
LAST MEETING ... BAYLOR 2, No. 19 TEXAS A&M 1 - APRIL 2, 2003
Four Texas A&M errors led directly to both Baylor runs as the Lady Bears defeated the 19th-ranked Aggies 2-1 at Getterman Stadium. Baylor posted its first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating then-No. 24 Texas A&M 3-0 April 18, 2002 at College Station. The Lady Bears had lost 11 straight against ranked opponents since that game. Sarah Caudle led off the bottom of the second with a four-pitch walk and moved to second on a Stephanie Pomes sacrifice bunt. Texas A&M starter Jessica Slataper then got Carrie Leerberg to strike out; however, on strike three, Caudle stole third and then scored on a throwing error by Aggie catcher Selena Collins. Texas A&M committed three errors in the fourth, none bigger than another throwing error by Collins. Kim Wilmoth led off the inning with her third triple of the season, a line drive to the gap in right-center that rolled to the wall. After Kelly Osburn reached on an error by shortstop Crystal Martin, Collins' throw to second on Osburn's steal attempt sailed into the outfield and Wilmoth raced home. Cristin Vitek started for Baylor and allowed one run, a fourth-inning leadoff home run by Collins, and no walks with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings. However, it was Katie Decker's 3.2 innings of hitless relief that secured the victory for Baylor. Decker (6-3) issued a leadoff walk to Adrian Gregory in the top of the seventh for her only base runner of the night. Wilmoth went 2-for-3 for her team-best 13th multiple-hit game of the season. Nan Wilkins, Danelle Arnold and Kourtny Westerfeld also had hits for the Lady Bears, and Caudle walked twice.
THE KANSAS SERIES
Baylor and Kansas meet for the 23rd and 24th times this weekend; the Jayhawks hold a 17-5 advantage in the all-time series and have won five of the last six meeting. Baylor has never won at Lawrence in four tries. Last season, Kansas and Baylor split a two-game set in Waco; the Jayhawks won the first game 2-1 and the Lady Bears took the second contest 1-0. Kansas leads the series 9-3 in regular season meetings as Big 12 foes. The Jayhawks are 2-0 against the Lady Bears in Big 12 Tournament games.
LAST MEETING ... BAYLOR 1, KANSAS 0 - MARCH 24, 2002
Kim Wilmoth scored the eventual game-winning run and made a game-saving, sixth-inning catch as Baylor defeated Kansas 1-0 Sunday at Getterman Stadium. Saturday, Kansas got a pair of unearned first-inning runs en route to a 2-1 victory over Baylor. This time, it was Baylor's turn to capitalize on an error. With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Kristen Lancaster bounced a ball to shortstop Sandy Smith that appeared to get the Jayhawks out of the jam. However, Smith bobbled the ball, and a hustling Lancaster beat out the throw at first. Wilmoth scored from third on the play. That was all the offense Cristin Vitek needed. The freshman southpaw tossed six and two-thirds innings; she allowed four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Joni Miller pitched to two batters in the sixth, getting one out and allowing one hit before Vitek re-entered the game. When Vitek came back into the game, she found runners at second and third and two out. Pinch hitter Courtney Wright looped a ball over Wilmoth's right shoulder at short. However, Wilmoth made a diving, juggling catch to end the inning, saving two runs. Wilmoth, Kelly Levesque, Sarah Caudle and Danelle Arnold each had hits for Baylor. The Lady Bears tallied a season-high five stolen bases on the day, including two by Wilmoth.
