Baylor Men's Golfers Travel to NCAA Central Regional

WACO, Texas - Baylor's men's golf team will begin play on Thursday in the NCAA Central Regional at the 72-par, 5,572-yard Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan. Round one is slated to tee off on Thursday morning. Two more rounds will follow on Friday and Saturday with 18-holes being played each day.
The Bears earned the 12th seed in the Central Regional. They will be joined by Big 12 foes Texas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Kansas, Missouri and Kansas State. The defending NCAA Champion Minnesota Golden Gophers also are among the 27-team field, which includes TCU, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Illinois, Northwestern, SMU, Tulsa, Kentucky, Lamar, Toledo, Michigan State, Wichita State, North Texas, Ohio State, Kent State and Wright State.
The Bears are making their sixth consecutive appearance in the central regional. Their highest finish as a team was last season when they placed seventh to advance to the NCAA Championships. Individually, Baylor's best performance came from Jimmy Walker in 2001 when the then senior tied for fifth (69-73-74=216) overall. The Baylor men's golf team is making its eighth overall postseason appearance. The first two came in 1990 and 1993. The Bears have proceeded to earn NCAA regional bids annually since 1998.
In Baylor's last outing, the Bears finished ninth at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The team has finished in the top ten in five straight tournaments.
