WACO, Texas - Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore announced Sunday the addition of Tessa Lynam to the Lady Bears' 2004 roster. Lynam transfers to Baylor as a junior from LSU, where she was a second-team all-Southeastern Conference selection this spring.
A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Lynam played first base and pitched in two seasons for the Tigers. Moore expects her to see time at both positions and at third base with the Lady Bears; however, he said her main contribution will be added offensive prowess.
"Tessa is a great addition to our team," Moore said. "She is passionate about the game and has a work ethic rarely seen today. She will make an immediate impact."
Lynam earned first-team all-Louisiana honors in 2003, and she was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. As a freshman in 2002, Lynam earned all-tournament honors at the NCAA Region 3 Tournament, the SEC Tournament and the Tiger Classic. She was also a first-team all-Louisiana selection as a freshman.
Lynam hit .284 with nine home runs and 38 RBI in 2003; she also had 12 doubles and was second on the team with a .535 slugging percentage. In the circle, Lynam was 16-3 with a 2.24 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 153.0 innings. She missed 15 games due to a broken hand. Lynam hit .291 with nine home runs and 40 RBI as a freshman.
Moore recruited Lynam during his time at LSU. Lynam was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Georgia in 2001 and was a three-time all-state selection.
