Waco, Texas - Baylor head football coach Guy Morriss welcomed his first Bear team to campus Tuesday as 105 players reported to begin preseason workouts. Included in the group were 20 new scholarship signees, 56 returning scholarship players, 17 new walkons and 12 returning walkons.

"As a staff, we're excited about getting started, especially seeing some of these young freshmen coming in," Morriss told a group of reporters Tuesday afternoon. "We're anxious to get started and see what we've got.

"Some of these new guys will have to step up and give us some quality time as backups, and some of them may end up starting before it's all over. You never know."

Only two signees who were announced last February failed to report. Running back Quincy Cosby of Mart recently underwent shoulder surgery and will report on the first day of class, Aug. 25, while offensive lineman Kellen Taylor of Richmond Foster is planning on attending junior college.

After a Tuesday night orientation session, the team begins practice Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The first day of pads is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, with Monday signaling the start of alternating two-a-day practices. All practices are open to the public.

The 2003 season begins at home Aug. 30 against UAB.
