Final Stats
WACO, Texas - LSU shot a final-round 294 Tuesday to finish 868 and take the team title at the sixth annual Baylor Invitational at Bear Ridge Golf Club in Waco, Texas.
The Tigers began the day one stroke behind host Baylor at 574. The Bears shot a 302 in the third round and fell to fourth (875).
Lamar's Chris Stroud took individual medalist honors by shooting a three-round 14-under-par 202 (65-68-69) and besting the field by eight strokes. Stroud, a senior from Groves, Texas, was the individual medalist at the Baylor Invitational as a sophomore in 2001 at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco.
Southeastern Louisiana carded a one-under-par 287 team score Tuesday and climbed to a second place finish at 870, two shots behind LSU. Lamar shot a 293 in the third round and finished four strokes off the pace in third at 872.
Baylor placed fourth at 875, followed by Texas Tech and UT-San Antonio at 876. Baylor was led by freshman Jeremy Frye, who finished tied for fourth individually at three-under-par 213 (68-69-76) after carding a 76 Tuesday. Junior Ryan Baca shot a final-round 76 to finish at two-over 218 (69-73-76) and tied for 14th.
Freshman Jeremy Alcorn finished tied at 33rd (78-73-72=223), senior Will Doughtie tied for 40th (77-70-78=225) and senior Jon Antunes finished tied for 47th (74-73-79=226) to round out the Baylor scoring.
The Bears had two individual players, Jaime Luna tied for 18th (68-75-76=219) and Will McDonald tied for 33rd (74-74-75=223).
The Baylor Invitational began in 1998 and after four years of competition at Waco's Ridgewood Country Club moved to Baylor's Bear Ridge in 2002. The 7,275-yard, par 72 Bear Ridge is located along the Bosque River southeast of Waco.
Baylor's next action is Oct. 13-14 at the Stonebridge Invitational in McKinney, Texas.
