WACO, Texas - Fourth-ranked Georgia posted a 6-1 win in their season opener Saturday with a victory over 32nd-ranked Baylor at the Hopkins Indoor Tennis Center. Baylor falls to 0-3 on the season, all three matches have come against teams ranked 12th or higher.

Georgia (1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point. The Bulldogs swept all three matches. The fourth-ranked duo of Agata Cioroch and Shadisha Robinson beat Stephanie Balzert and Daria Potapova 8-1 at number one. Georgia's number two team of Jitka Schonfeldova and Evgenia Subbotina posted an 8-2 win while the number three Bulldog tandem of Natalie Frazier and Douglas Wink defeated Izabela Mijic and Iva Mihaylova, 8-3.

Subbotina gave Georgia a 2-0 advantage with a win at number three singles, defeating Zuzana Krchnakova 6-0,6-3. Then, Robinson picked up a win at number two, beating Balzert 6-1,6-4 for a 3-0 lead. Cioroch, ranked number one nationally, clinched the victory for Georgia after a spirited battle from Carolin Walter in the number one match. Cioroch won the first set 6-1 and then trailed 5-2 before rallying to win the match in a tiebreaker.

Also, Frazier was extended to three sets in the number four match by Potapova before winning 6-1,4-6,6-3. The Bears garnered their lone win in the number six match as Mihaylova defeated Wink 6-0,6-2. The final singles contest was decided in a match tie-breaker after Schonfeldova and Zrustova split the first two sets. Schonfeldova fought off two match points and then rallied to win it by a score of 6-3,3-6,1-0 (12-10).

Baylor continues their road trip and will take on Clemson. Baylor and the Clemson Tigers will tangle at Clemson's Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Sun., Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. (CST). The Bears will be Clemson's second match of the season; they opened against the College of Charleston on Saturday.
