WACO, Texas - Daniela Covello and Zuzana Cerna advanced to the semifinals in doubles action of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Women's Regional Championships at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas, by defeating the tournament's top-seeded tandem.
The Baylor tandem upset No. 1 seeded Kendra Strom and Katie Ruckert of Texas 8-3 on Monday. They will now take on the tournament's No. 3 seed, Darya Ivanov and Maria Ivanov of Tulane. The Tulane duo defeated Texas' Petra Dizdar and Ritstine Olson 8-1 to advance to the semifinals. TCU's Kewa Nichols and Story Tweedie-Yates will take on TCU teammates Helena Besovic and Karla Mancinas in the other semifinal bracket.
In singles action, Cerna and Covello were eliminated in quarterfinal action. Cerna dropped a two-set match to Helga Vieira of Texas A&M, 6-3, 6-3, and Covello lost to the tournament's No. 5 seed, Helena Besovic of TCU, 6-2, 6-1.
