On Iowa State...
"Against A&M, they were rotating quarterbacks, and it looks like they've got two different philosophies for each quarterback, and they seem to be really searching for answers, they were one back, spread in the field, split backs, throwing the ball, running a little bit, running some option, couldn't really make up their mind what they were trying to get done... then they came out last week against Colorado and went with number 7 the whole way...so maybe they've decided what they're trying to get done against us, maybe they're setting in on one quarterback and maybe one style of play, they ran a lot more option."
"It's something we don't really see a lot of anymore, it takes a little extra time, a few more reps, and they run all forms of the option, different formations so it's tough for our scout teams to duplicate that, do it in speed and as well as they'll be able to do it to us, but I think that's the number one thing now in our defense's staff's mind, is we've got to stop the option, and then the play action and all that comes with it."
"We need to get all three phases to show up on the same day, there's no question about that...and that's puzzling and baffles me as to why not, because the whole team's hearing the same message, the same thing going in, and you wonder why one particular phase plays a lot better than another particular phase, we've got to get that solved."
On Iowa State Head Coach Dan McCarney
"The people at Iowa State decided to give this guy some time. You know, he was there for five years before he had a winning year if my memory serves me right. You know, that goes a long way. Give the guy enough time to get a simple system implemented from his kind of players and so forth I think it was that sixth year when they took off and they are in pretty good shape now. I know they've had kind of a struggle this year but I think it's just from an administrative standpoint, they decided they were going to commit to Dan and back him and give him time and it's paying off for them."
"They will probably come down here and play lights out. That's what we are expecting. We have to be ready for their best effort. Meyer is the same kind of quarterback we've seen before and he's the kind of guy that if we let him get cranked up and get going, we're going to have trouble with him. We've got to have a great week in practice and come out and smother him up. You know, I think the best thing we can do is just not let him get into that finite rhythm and have a good night and those kind of things. But, if he gets his game going, it's going to be a long night because he's that good of a player I think."
"I have confidence in our football team. I always have confidence every game we're going into is going to be the day that the light comes on and all three phases show up and we play like I know we can each individual phase of our team can play. We've seen our defense play extremely well, our special teams play well, and at times, our offense had done well so I'm confident that they are going to show up Saturday night and we are going to put together a great game and we are going to win this ball game. But, I go into every game feeling that way. I just think one of these days it's all going to click, it will go on in their head, and we are going to get it right. I don't know any coach that goes into a game that doesn't think that way."
On Iowa State Being the Most Sacked Team in the Big 12
"That gets me excited. I didn't know that. We need to get after this guy. I'm telling you, he doesn't like to get hit. I don't any quarterback that does and if we can hit him and disrupt his rhythm and sack him, he's not going to be as accurate. You would think it would rattle him and take him out of the rhythm of his game and that kind of stuff."
On Homecoming Game
"We always want to win. Probably homecoming we are going to have a bigger crowd and we always like to play good in front of the home crowd and it's a festive weekend so we want to hold up our end of the deal. I think our kids are excited about it. We'll always make an effort to host and make our former players feel welcome, that's any weekend not just homecoming. I think the only official duty I have this weekend is to go and speak at the pep rally and take some players with us and see if we can't get the crowd kind of pumped up and that kind of stuff."
Volleyball Head Coach Jim Barnes-
"We had a 1-1 week but it wasn't a very good week for us as a team. The match against Texas Tech last Wednesday was probably our worst match of the season and it was close to the worst part of our season so far. We didn't play and we didn't show up like we needed to and really just a disappointing loss for us and hopefully we can rebound from that. I don't think we have rebounded yet. We played Northwestern and beat them 3-0 and got some work in and got some things sharpened up a little more but as a team, we have got to play much better. To finish up this second half of the big twelve, we've got Kansas State Wednesday. It will be the final game of the first round of the Big 12 at their place and I believe they are ranked around #16 or #18 in the nation but a team that I feel is very beatable. I think they are a lot like the Kansas team that we upset earlier. They maybe have one player better so we are going to have to play really good volleyball to beat those guys on the road and then back here for the homecoming festivities, we'll host Nebraska Saturday night at 7:00. They are ranked now #4 with one of the top-two players in the nation, Sarah Paven, who's on their team and she's a 6'4 freshman and she's something to watch. When we played them at their place, we had a great game plan against her and shut her down and actually took her out of the match and that's one of the reasons we had a chance against those guys. So, we will see how they look now coming into our place...Our lack of depth is really what's hurting us right now. We have some people that we just really need to replace at times in practice and in matches but we're just not able to right now. Hopefully with a little rest they will be able to rebound and be sharper and we'll be ready to take-on this second half of the season."
Soccer Head Coach George Van Linder-
"This past weekend was the highest of highs and the lowest of lows for us. I was talking to some coaches earlier and I told them that I think Baylor's toughest opponent sometimes is Baylor. You sometimes never know what team will show up. We had a good game Friday against Colorado. We got off to an early lead and just things kind of melted a little bit and we had a tough time putting away a win and we had a tough loss against Colorado. So, that was a disappointing game for us but on a positive note, Ginny Rosario-Tull, our leading scorer last year, had her first goal of the year. That was a lot of hard work that paid off for her, working extra after practice and doing things to get that goal, so, we're excited for her. Going into the Nebraska game, we knew our back was against the wall... We knew we had to get a win. Starting out against Nebraska, we were down 2-0 at the beginning of the game and we looked at ourselves and kind of felt that again the Baylor team that we didn't want to show up, showed up but the players really responded well. At halftime we were 2-1 and had a few opportunities and as the game progressed the players confidence grew and grew and things went really well for us. We were able to get it up to 3-3 and then get the winning goal...We are excited for the future about what our freshman are going to do...The disappointing thing is that with a minute and a half left in the game, our captain, Ginny Rosario-Tull got an injury, a hairline fracture to the Tibia and she's at the doctor's right now and it looks like it could be a season's ending, career ending injury so we are going to need our freshmen to step up. She was a leader on the field and off the field so it's quite a hit for us a team. We are going to work hard this week to get readjusted and motivated for these two must-win games. Northern Colorado is a much better team than their record...Their coach has scheduled a lot of tough games so they don't have a great record but they are a much better team than their record indicates. It will be a good time for us to tune-up and get ready for Missouri and hopefully we can get the players in and show what kind of depth we have and take advantage of that. Missouri is a must win game to get into the conference tournament and huge rivalry for us. There is some in-house rivalry among the coaching staff and it's an even series and it's a must-win game to get into the conference tournament so you can see that there is a lot of rivalry there and a lot emotion and spirit there. We hope to come out on top on that and have a successful game and be on our way to the conference tournament."
